🇧🇪 Belgium

Regulatory Overview

Belgium implements EU waste shipment regulation under Regulation (EU) 2024/1157 at regional level: Flanders, Wallonia, and Brussels-Capital each have their own competent authority for waste shipment supervision. Transboundary shipments involving Belgium must comply with the procedures of the region(s) concerned. Coordination with other Member States follows the regulation.

National Waste Shipment Procedures

Belgium applies the EU notification procedure (prior written notification and consent) and Annex VII procedure (green-listed waste) at regional level. Procedures may be digital, paper-based, or hybrid depending on the region. Movement documents and facility certificates are required. Operators interact with the competent authority of the relevant region through the designated channels.

DIWASS Implementation Status

Belgium is preparing for mandatory use of the EU Digital Waste Shipment System (DIWASS). The access pathway may be the DIWASS graphical interface or a regional/national system interconnected with DIWASS.
