DIWASS Implementation Status
Monitoring page tracking implementation of the Digital Waste Shipment System (DIWASS) across EU Member States.
From 21 May 2026, electronic transmission of waste shipment documentation (notifications, consents, movement documents, Annex VII documents) becomes mandatory under Regulation (EU) 2024/1157. DIWASS is the EU platform that supports this digital exchange. Member States may connect to DIWASS via national systems or offer operators access through the central DIWASS graphical interface.
Implementation landscape
- European Commission — Operates the central DIWASS platform and interoperability hub; publishes technical specifications (e.g. Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1290).
- Member States — Designate competent authorities, determine access pathways (GUI, national system, or commercial software), and implement registration and submission procedures.
- Operators — Must use DIWASS or an interconnected system for relevant procedures from the mandatory application date; preparation and registration timelines vary by Member State.
Implementation status and access arrangements (e.g. national system availability, registration opening) are determined at national level. Operators should confirm requirements with the competent authority in the country of export, import, and any transit.
